Project Grace

Project Grace

Project Grace organizes service trips for grieving mothers, fathers and families. Our participants come together in a supportive environment for the dual purpose of honoring a loved one and serving a community in need. Whether they are singing songs with the children of an orphanage, handing out food and clothing to the families living at the Puerto Vallarta dump in Mexico, or helping to build a school in Nicaragua, our goal is to help Project Grace participants find strength, hope and a renewed sense of purpose through dedicating their time and hearts to a meaningful endeavor. Laughter, friendship, tears and treasured moments are all a part of the experience as participants share their stories, offer compassion and support to one another, and work together to provide tangible aid to an impoverished community.

“During the grieving process we feel so many different things, but what I feel the most is that our broken hearts allow us to love more deeply and live in the moment." Norma Neeley, Project Grace Participant

Inspired by the documentary film, Motherland, which posed the question, “Is there healing in helping others?”, Project Grace was founded for the purpose of offering persons in grief the opportunity to honor a loved one through service. This program has been named in honor of Grace Caldwell Magill, June 26, 1989-January 1, 2005, the daughter of one of the participants featured in Motherland. To learn more about Motherland, please visit www.motherland-thefilm.org.

Many Project Grace participants are fortunate to be scholarship recipients.  Project Grace gratefully accepts donations.

Project Grace Trip Descriptions

Bucerias, Mexico Mothers Trip
The town of Bucerias, is approximately fifteen miles north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We will be working in the Manos de Amor, Casa Hogar orphanage. This is a serious working trip involving helping the children with their daily needs, preparing meals, cleaning, and performing other jobs around the orphanage. We will also spend time with Families at the Dump, an organization that supports the families living off of the Puerto Vallarta Dump.  Free time will be built in to each day, and evenings will be spent together as a group, with dinner and dedicated time for sharing stories.

The cost of the trip is $1,200 per participant and does not include airfare. Included in the cost are lodging, ground transportation, travel insurance, most but not all meals, and any purchases we make for the orphanage.  A limited number of scholarships are available.

The next trip is scheduled for October 17 - 23, 2010.
