
Melissa Heckman, MSW
Director, Center Programs
Melissa Heckman, MSW, is the Director of CorStone's Center Programs. Melissa oversees the development, training, recruitment and marketing of the 1-1 counseling, peer support programs and professional workshops held at the CorStone Center.
Melissa has worked as a professional Social Worker for over 15 years in medical, legal, non-profit and private practice settings. She has worked in New Orleans, Hawaii and the Bay Area. Prior to joining CorStone, Melissa served as a Medical Social Worker at Kaiser Permanente in the Complex Chronic Conditions and Outpatient Social Work Programs performing brief solutions-focused and strengths based counseling, complex case management and serving on the Domestic Violence Task Force. Prior to Kaiser, Melissa worked with Benchmark Medical Consulting providing private psychiatric case management. And previous to Benchmark, Melissa performed clinical assessments with United Behavioral Health, a Fortune 500 Company. Melissa worked in the New Orleans District Attorney Court Diversion Program and she has consulted to the Maui County and San Francisco School Districts performing assessments, managing complex cases and participating on Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams.
Melissa earned her MSW from Tulane University in Clinical Social Work and she has a BA in Sociology from the University of North Carolina. Melissa has been a general volunteer at CorStone for four years. Melissa also has a private Integrative Life Coaching practice and is a Prayer Chaplain for Unity of Berkeley. Melissa loves Hawaii, where she grew up, and she enjoys practicing yoga, meditation, stand-up paddle boarding, hiking and travel.
